Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup water 70 to 80 degrees
  • 1/2 cup whole milk 70 to 80 degrees
  • 1 egg beaten
  • 3 tablespoon honey
  • 2 tablespoons butter softened
  • 1-1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1-1/2 cup white flour
  • 1-1/2 cup wheat four
  • 1-1/8 teaspoon active dry yeast

Instructions

  • Place all ingredients in bread pan. Select wheat bread setting (on Oster) or basic setting if your machine doesn't have a wheat setting. Choose bread crust color level - if available on machine. Bake according to bread machine specifications. After 5 minutes, check the condition of the dough. If too soft, add more flour; and, if too dry add water. It's suggested to add water or flour one tablespoon at a time until dough has good consistency. Dough shouldn't be so dry that it doesn't stick to the side-walls of the mixing bucket. It should stick to the walls during mixing, yet peel off cleanly as the dough is kneaded.

Notes

This recipe makes a single loaf in the Oster bread machine. We found that the measured amount of yeast affects how much the bread rises. If there's too much yeast, the bread will collapse during cooking. Bread machines are designed to slightly warm the dough during the mixing and rising phases. Since the temperature for each machine will differ, the amount of needed yeast can vary. If your loaf collapses on the first go around, reduce yeast by 1/8 teaspoon.
